Another year gone and many miles under my belt. 2017 has been incredibly exciting, giving me the opportunity as a private guide to meet up with previous guests and travel with new ones as well as to visit some amazing places. In the first six months alone I had been around the world twice. Some of my favourite highlights have been when I visited the jungles of Borneo, scaled glaciers and met with vikings in Iceland, tracked komodo dragons to their nesting sites in Indonesia, ridden dromedary camels in the Sahara and bactrian camels in the Gobi Desert. 2017 has also seen my best ever whale shark experience in the Philippines.
I have spent time with the Bushman in the Kalahari and the Inca in Peru, where I love their connection with what they call ‘Pata Mama’, meaning mother earth. When in Outer Mongolia I experienced the Naadam Festival which is the most important social gathering of the Mongol people in their calendar.
This year has also been a year of firsts – the first time I have seen the Northern Lights which was an incredible experience I will never forget and was my third visit before successfully seeing them. Hearing the ethereal sound of Mongolian throat singers, whilst overlooking the Gobi Steppe with the backdrop of the Altai Mountains is an everlasting memory.
Having travelled to so many fantastic destinations, I have put together a small presentation showing my favourite photographs from this year which I hope you will have time to look at in the holidays. You may even find a photograph of yourself! I hope you enjoy them.
2018 sees me travelling to South America three times including highlights such as Easter Island, Patagonia, Bolivian Salt Flats, Machu Piccu, the Amazon rain forest and the Iguazu Falls as well as returning to my beloved homeland of Africa to revisit the mountain gorillas in Uganda, follow the great migration through East Africa and check on this year’s leopard cubs and wild dog pups in the Okavango Delta.
